How We Can Help

All Faiths Adoptions Services’ staff are experienced in providing pre and post placement support, as well as assisting families to navigate both the formal process and emotional aspects of adoption.

All Faiths Adoption Services helps families facilitate open adoptions and semi-open adoptions. Your adoption case worker will go over the pros and cons of each type of adoption and provide reading material, peer support referrals, and theoretical and research findings in regards to each type of adoption.

Concurrent Adoption Activity

We recognize you may register with other adoption agencies in addition to All Faiths Adoption Services, however, we ask that you keep your case worker updated as to your status with each agency.

Please note, we are unable to provide adoption services to families who are currently providing foster care, or waiting to adopt a child/children from the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD).

Matching Services

When a birth parent selects a family she/he would like to meet, our staff will schedule a Match Meeting between the birth family and the prospective adoptive family.  A staff member will be present to facilitate this meeting and any meetings thereafter where either party requests our presence.  Several topics are covered during Match Meetings, such as:

  • openness to continued contact,

  • family traditions,

  • child rearing beliefs and practices,

  • any other issue of concern to the biological family or adoptive family.

Placement Services

Our services include:

  • Preparing the paperwork for birth parents to sign after the baby is born authorizing placement with the prospective adoptive family,

  • Coordinating the birth mother’s discharge from the hospital,

  • Coordinating the infant’s discharge from the hospital into Cradle Care* or to the adoptive parents,

  • Preparing, reviewing and signing placement documents with the adoptive family,

  • Available for additional counseling and support to all participants in the process.

The adoption case worker is present at the hospital to help facilitate communication between the birth family, adoptive family, hospital staff, and attorneys.

*Some infants enter Cradle Care and then are placed with their adoptive family a few days later.  Cradle Care providers have a current home study and background clearances to provide care for newborn infants who are awaiting placement into an adoptive family.

Post Placement Services

Our goal is to assist families in making a successful adjustment to their new family.  New Mexico law requires post placement supervision after an infant is placed in an adoptive home.  Supervision begins at the time of placement and continues until the adoption is finalized.  In New Mexico, post placement supervision is required for three to six months after placement.  The first visit will be within 72 hours of placement.  After that visit, your case worker will schedule monthly face-to-face visits in the home until the adoption is finalized.  Additional visits or referrals may be required in certain cases.  All required reports will be submitted to the appropriate court prior to finalization and will remain a permanent part of the case record.

Finalization Of The Adoption

All Faiths Adoption Services adheres to the timelines set forth in accordance with the New Mexico Adoption Code. All outstanding balances must be paid in full prior to the time that the adoption is finalized.

Post Finalization Services

All Faiths Adoption Services provides post adoption support as needed. These services include:

  • ongoing parenting support and education,

  • resources and referral information,

  • intermediary services (exchange of pictures and letters between the birth family and adoptive family),

  • informal networking and support between adoptive families

Legal Counsel

Both adoptive parents and birth parents must be represented by an attorney.  Adoptive parents pay all attorney’s fees.  All Faiths Adoption Services can provide you with a referral list of attorneys. All Faiths Adoption Services staff cannot provide any legal advice.

Interstate Compact On The Placement Of Children (ICPC)

All Faiths Adoption Services follows the regulations set forth in the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children that governs the transfer of children across state lines.  When a child leaves or enters New Mexico, these procedures must be followed.  Our agency will prepare the necessary documents and written reports to meet all applicable laws in both states.  Families may not leave or enter New Mexico until the ICPC Administrator grants verbal approval.
